Philosophy
The philosophy behind the education component of the Child Development Laboratory School at Richard J. Daley is rooted in theory and research. We believe that children learn best through hands-on experiences and learningopportunities. We believe in individualizing instructions to meet the needs of every child in our classroom. Our program emphasizes the importance of parent, family, and community involvement in our classroom activities.

Curriculum
All preschool classrooms at the Child Development Laboratory School at Richard J. Daley College use The Creative Curriculum for Preschool as the foundation for planning daily lessons and activities.

We provide experiences to enrich every child’s development in the following areas:

  1. Social/Emotional
  2. Physical
  3. Cognitive
  4. Language

Special Needs
We serve children with special needs; our teachers are trained to meet the individual needs of children.

Nutrition
We serve nutritious meals and depending on the time of attendance we serve breakfast, lunch and an afternoon snack.

Staff
All of our personnel are committed to ongoing staff training and professional development. Dedicated and well-educated professionals are critical to implementing a high-quality early childhood program. All staff participates in a variety of trainings and courses throughout the school year.

Hours of Operation
The Laboratory School is a year round program is open to all children who meet admission requirements. There is a full-day program Monday through Friday (8:00-5:00 p.m.) or a half-day program Monday through Thursday (8:00-12:00, 9:00-1:00 or 1:00-5:00).

Requirements for Admission
State licensing standards required the following documents for children to be admitted:

  • Registration Forms
  • Food Program Application
  • Child’s up-to-date medical from with required immunizations
  • Copy of original birth certificate
  • Dental Exam
  • Parent’s copy of class registration (if applicable)
  • Proof of Income (two most recent check stubs from each parent)

Cost
The tuition is based on a half-day (8:00-12:00, 9:00-1:00 or 1:00-5:00) and full-day program (8:00-5:00). There is a $25.00 non-refundable registration fee; costs are subject to change. There is a sliding fee scale available and we also offer subsidized programs to help offset the cost of our program such as Action for Children.

Head Start is available and free to families that qualify; no registration fee for Head Start families. The program offers Head Start in partnership with the City of Chicago Family Support Services (FSS).
